Budding city entrepreneurs are being given the chance to start their own business for free at Peterborough City Market during Love Your Local Market fortnight from Monday 13 to Sunday 26 May 2013.
For five days from Tuesday 14 May until Saturday 18 May people who are new to market trading will have an opportunity to make their mark in the city market and start a successful business in Peterborough’s largest hub of independent retailers.
Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis and should be made by visiting the Peterborough City Market page or by telephoning the market manager on: (01733) 343358 to arrange for an application form. All applications must be received 48 hours before requested trading dates.
The National Market Traders Association (NMTF) will be offering free public liability insurance for those who have secured pitches.
In addition to attracting new market traders, the campaign will see the city market introduce a number of new activities and products.
On Saturday 18 May the HappyClay stall will be offering blank pottery for purchase and decoration as an ideal personalised gift. A wide range of ceramics will be available, along with the paint required to create a design. The item should be returned to the stall once painted, when it will be glazed, fired and ready for collection on Saturday 25 May.
HappyClay also specialise in personalising jewellery and castings, both of which will be available during the two-week campaign.
Visitors to the market will also be in with a chance to win two tickets to see Olly Murs when he performs on the city’s Embankment on Sunday 2 June. The tickets are one of several prizes up for grabs during a market quiz, which takes place over the two-week campaign from Tuesday 14 May.
Other prizes in the 12-question visual quiz about the market include: two entries into the Perkins Great Eastern Run fun run or half marathon, two 12” pizzas courtesy of Papa Luigi and a free MOT at Ellingworth’s Garage in Fengate.
Shoppers will also be in for a special treat when Deeping St James charity Exotic Pet Refuge will be displaying their owls on Saturday 25 May from 10am until 3pm.
The Love Your Local Market campaign will also extend into Long Causeway where a number of stalls will be trading throughout the two weeks fromMonday 13 May. People will be able to shop for shoes and bags, clothing, electrical goods, crystal gifts and Asian cuisine ingredients. The stalls will be open from 9am until 4.30pm and on Sundays from 10am until 3.30pm.
