Doubt over the future of Keighley’s street markets
Bradford Council has been accused of “not being interested in Keighley” after it was revealed funding could be axed for the town’s popular street markets.
War has ruined Aleppo’s souk, London’s street stalls face the threat of developers: in both cases, they must survive.
Its exciting, even if long overdue, to hear the Government plans to issue a consultation on draft regulations.
Even though the campaign “Love your local market” has been announced by the Government, It is extraordinary that no further information, can yet be found.
I am a nobody in the scale of things but I did sit through the parliament debate about the issues effecting our Own Centers and High Streets.
The value of the market hall and its traders to the town far exceeds the paltry profit the council gets from its rents.
Their is still an attitude from some quarters that market traders are somehow not serious business people. . .
The reality is, a market cannot be used as a commodity by interested parties in an attempt to prop up retail interests.
