Anything that helps to raise the profile of the town has got to be a good thing
A NIGHT market will be introduced in Walsall – despite the borough missing out on cash from retail guru Mary Portas, council bosses said today.
Business bosses said the idea of a night-time market, which would be reminiscent of London’s Covent Garden, is one they are keen to push ahead with.
Detailed plans will be drawn up over the coming weeks, as it was rev-ealed the council will ent- er into a second round of bidding for the £100,000 Portas cashpot to help fund future projects.
The night market is likely to be held every quarter and will feature “quirky” craft and gift items, those behind the idea said today.
Carl Mitchell, owner of Bonce hair salon in Bradford Street, was one of the bos-ses behind the Portas bid, working under the banner of Walsall Town Centre Champions. “The night-time market idea was one of the best things to come out of the Mary Portas bid,” he said.
