Love your local market fortnight is back (Thursday 16 to Saturday 25 May). North Lincolnshire Council is hosting a series of events across the area to appreciate the long history of market life.
At some of these events, you’ll find brand new businesses who were invited to try out a ‘Stall for Fiver’ – who will be experimenting with new ideas and selling something a little different.
Thursday 16 May – Brigg General Market
Discover the best a market town has to offer with stylish independent shops and a welcoming traditional street marker. There will be music and a great atmosphere for all the family to enjoy.
Friday 17 and Saturday 18 May – Scunthorpe Market
Scunthorpe Market already has a great choice of food, fashion, home wares and more. This weekend there will be new stalls in the Old Hall. Join us on The Podium and find everything you need to get ready for summer.
Thursday 23 May – Ashby Market
Join us for a coffee and find out why Ashby Market is on e of the area’s best kept secrets. There will be music and a great atmosphere.
Saturday 25 May – Brigg Farmers’ Market
Come and explore the stalls at Brigg Farmers’ Market, enjoy fresh local produce from our friendly traders and sock up the atmosphere.
Running a market stall can be a great low cost way of starting a small business; some well known and established brands such as Marks and Spencer and Morrisons started out as market traders.
Trying a stall for a day for only £5 is an excellent opportunity for any small or new business to test out their ideas. All the markets are situated in prime locations with potential to attract new customers. New traders will be offered expert advice and top tips for success from ‘market mentors’ with years of experience. This is a unique chance to get an insight into running a market stall and experience what it’s really like. We’ll event sort out insurance cove for you for the day.
If you are interested in taking a stall, please email markets@northlincs.gov.uk or call the markets office on 01724 297816 and ask for details on how to be part of the ‘Stalls for a Fiver’ promotion.
North Lincolnshire Council spokeswoman, said
“Fall in Love with your market aims to encourage more people to visit their local market to find out what’s on offer.
“Many people are choosing to shop at their market because they can get what they need there and often at a fraction of the cost in a supermarket. They offer a wide range of good quality produce at very good prices.
“Why not pop along to your local market and see what’s on offer and change your shopping habits with a more stress free way of shopping.”
