June 4, 2012 Wakefield Council
Wakefield Council is taking part in the national Love Your Local Market campaign and is offering the opportunity to ‘Trade for a Tenner’ at its six markets.
The Love Your Local Market campaign runs from June 23 to July 6 and was introduced following the Mary Portas report which highlighted the importance of markets in the regeneration of town and city centres.
For just £10 anyone new to markets – or existing traders trying out new markets – can stand at one of the Council’s markets during one of the Love Your Local Market days.
Cllr David Dagger, Cabinet member responsible for Markets, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has ever thought they might like to be a market trader. It is a ‘no strings’ chance to try out trading to see if it is right for you. Like Mary Portas, Wakefield Council recognises the role played by markets in town centre regeneration and in starting up new businesses and we are proud to support this initiative.”
The events are:
1. Castleford Market Monday June 25
2. Normanton Market Tuesday June 26
3. Pontefract Market Wednesday June 27
4. Wakefield Market Monday July 2
5. Ossett Market Tuesday July 3
6. South Elmsall Market Friday July 6
