A NEW weekly market is to be opened in the refurbished historic Market Square at Midhurst.
The market will take place every Friday and the first will be held on May 30.
It is the brainchild of Cherry Potts, who opened The Cherry Pot greengrocery store on the corner of Red Lion Street and West Street 18 months ago and is now the new market operator.
Cherry told the Observer: “I went to the open meeting called by the Town Trust to discuss how its newly-refurbished square could be used and I put forward the idea of a weekly market.
“Then the chairman of the trust, Andrew Mitchell, came to see me and asked me to run it with the backing of the trust. This will be a trial and obviously it will have to be supported and work if it is to carry on permanently.”
