The teenager behind a winning Mary Portas bid for cash to rejuvenate Stockport has slammed town hall bosses claiming they have ‘betrayed’ the idea behind it.
Joe Barratt says the council is trying to run the scheme from behind closed doors.
And Joe, 19, says it is ignoring the wishes of those who came up with the winning idea. But the town hall says it has consulted retailers and residents every step of the way and will continue to do so.
Stockport was one of just 12 towns to be awarded £100,000 in a major government drive to bring shoppers back onto the high street.
The town’s bid – fronted by Joe – showcased Stockport’s young, creative aspirations and personally impressed retail guru Mary Portas and ministers.
