Improvements to Frome market could include stall holders linking up with the Artisan market once a month.
The “destination market” idea is the brainchild of the market steering group and part of a two-pronged approach recommended for approval at Mendip District Council’s cabinet at a meeting on Monday in response to a public consultation over the future of the town’s market.
Proposals are to trial the idea for three months, starting in July, and if given the go-ahead it could lead to road closures for the town centre, from The Bridge to Cork Street, Scott Road and King Street.
The report states that access to car parks will be maintained from both the north and south approaches, bus routes will remain open and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout.
The second part of the plan is to improve the Saturday and Wednesday markets, which would be implemented on a step-by-step basis.
