Jul 24, 2012 Peter Rabbit Council News Comments Off on Vintage boost for Widnes Market
Following the success of the Love Your Market fortnight and the Widnes Market Pound, more new stalls have opened in Widnes Market – giving a much needed boost to the town centre.
In the past three months eight new stalls have opened – with a wide range of goods for all tastes. Two new fashion stalls aimed at the Halton’s glamoratti are stocked with the latest trends.
Another stall offers vintage fashion choices, catering for those looking for something a little out of the ordinary – many items imported from abroad.
All the stalls are owned by young women looking to make their first step on the ladder of business ownership and believe they have found a gap in the market.
Other stalls opening include a new fishing shop for Widnes, selling major brand equipment, fresh baits and clothing, plus accessories and gifts for the fisherman (or woman) and an innnovative smokeless cigarette store.
Now summer seems finally to have arrived, another new venture sees the opening of a dessert stall, selling freshly made ice cream, cold desserts and puddings to take away.
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for the Physical Environment, Cllr Ron Hignett, said: “With fewer vacant stalls than most other local markets, Widnes is leading the way in promoting new starters or people looking to reduce their costs.
“The market team is still looking for new businesses to open, so if you have an idea that you want to get started with a low outlay, why not consider a stall on Widnes Market.”
Julia Tobin, aged 24, of Widnes, opened her Lucky Cat Vintage stall on Saturday and said she was getting a lot if interest in her goods.
“The good thing about Widnes Market is we get a lot of people going past and popping in for a look. And everyone is so friendly.” she said.
Rosie Marr, aged 23, of KS Accessories, who is also from Widnes, said: “It is a good atmosphere here and we already feel part of the community.”
