A CO-OPERATIVE store in South East Cornwall has said proposed plans for a new superstore in the area will have a “devastating” effect on the town centre.
The Co-operative has lodged an objection to the proposed new Tesco store in Saltash, warning that if the scheme goes ahead there could be a devastating effect on local trade in the area.
Tesco submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council for the construction of a food store at the Sanford Suzuki site on Saltash Industrial Estate, Gilson Road, in 2010.
The superstore wants to build a store of similar size to Waitrose, off Callington Road, creating 225 part and full-time jobs.
