Fire at Grey Mare lane Market in Manchester
A blaze at one of Manchester’s biggest outdoor markets was caused by a stray firework, fire chiefs said today.
Up to 60 wooden stalls at Grey Mare Lane market in Beswick were destroyed in the fire.
Fire crews wearing breathing masks used high-powered jets to douse the blaze at 7.45pm last night. The flames took around two hours to bring under control. Fire service investigators and police attended the market to launch a probe into the cause of the blaze.
A fire service spokesman said the initial results pointed to a stray firework. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
Fire service spokesman Paul Duggan said: “Around 60 wooden stalls have been completely gutted.
