March 2, 2012 Mercury By Gemma Gardner
SATURDAY parking charges in the borough’s town centres will be scrapped from March 3.
The news is part of a raft of measures announced by Broxbourne Council to stimulate trade in Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Waltham Cross.
Deputy leader Cllr David Lewis (Con, Rosedale), cabinet member for finance and resources, said the authority was committed to supporting the borough’s retail centres.
He said: “Our town centres are at the heart of our borough and at the heart of the council’s commitment to the community.
“So it is with great pride that I am about to announce a package of support for the borough’s town centres.”
These include scrapping parking fees on Saturdays in the town centres at a cost of £122,000 annually.
Currently parking for one hour costs 60p, two hours £1.40, three hours £2 and more than four hours £5.80.
