*UPDATE BELOW*
FROM Shanghai to Sheffield – a new series of night markets will bring a touch of the east to city shoppers from next month.
The first event will be held on Wednesday, February 8, from 8am until 9pm.
Co-organiser James Peterson of JC Market Events said his plan to hold a monthly event in Barker’s Pool had been inspired by four years of living in China.
“Night markets are a way of life over there so when I came back it seemed a good idea to hold a similar event in my home city,” he said.
“Here too many shops and markets still all shut at 5pm or so, so when I made an application to the council, they said fine.”
The market is expected to feature around 50 stalls with the emphasis on local arts, crafts and produce.
“The concept is that everything sold there will have been made or manufactured by a Sheffield person,” James said.
“We want to provide space for small Sheffield businesses who will be able to showcase their products in a prime location and on an evening which is already established for late night shopping.”

*UPDATE*
Plans to bring a series of new night markets to Sheffield city centre this month have been postponed until spring.
The first market was due to take place on Wednesday at Barker’s Pool with 50 stallholders selling arts, crafts and homemade goodies.
Stallholders will now pitch up for the first time between 3pm and 9pm on Wednesday, April 11 when the spring evenings are lighter and warmer.
Co-organiser James Peterson, of JC Market Events, said: “The new dates will be beneficial to both market traders and stallholders because the days will be lighter and the nights warmer.
