Chesterfield market traders are to play a role in promoting healthy eating habits after latest figures reveal less than half of people living in the area cook every day using raw ingredients.
NHS Derbyshire County said poor nutrition and diets high in fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar are closely linked to ill health and premature death. Combined with low levels of physical activity this is fuelling rising levels of obesity in adults and children.
Now market traders are helping more people find out about the benefits of using their local market to buy fresh food by giving away 100 free £5 food vouchers at an event to be held at Rykneld Square tomorrow Saturday (August 4) between 11am until 3pm.
Held in support of Chesterfield Borough Council’s ‘Love Your Market’ campaign, residents can use the vouchers at selected market stalls. They are also invited to get a taste of how easy it is to cook fresh food from scratch by watching cookery demonstrations, receive free easy-to-follow recipe booklets, and goodie bags plus lucky dip.
