MARKET traders will no longer have to pay rent in Buntingford after the town council axed the charges as part of a regeneration plan.
Fees have been suspended until at least May 27 in order to attract new traders to the Monday market.
The move has been welcomed by Buntingford’s Chamber of Commerce, but one trader believes it will take more than rent suspension to return the market to its former glory.
Stephen James, who sells golf equipment, bicycles and vacuum cleaners, said: “Obviously it helps as your expenditure is less, but the only thing that will attract more people is if you get more people to put up stalls.
