SHOPPERS have been signing up in their hundreds to protest against proposals to move Burton’s outdoor market to Station Street.
Market stallholders have set up a petition against plans by East Staffordshire Borough Council to move them from the Market Place as part of its efforts to regenerate the ailing market hall.
Wendy Newitt, a partner in Woods, which sells fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants, said: “We have quite a few hundred signatures now and that’s with the terrific thunderstorms we have had. We have done really well, so we are quite chuffed.”
The £1.54 million market move plans include turning the indoor market into a centre for food retailers during the day and a music, cinema and entertainment venue at night.
