Love your Local Market Campaign, now is the time to show your support.

A first look at some of the great incentives on offer for the Love Your Local Market Campaign to be held between 23 June and 8 July.

Special events will also be held on the 23 June as the Launch day for the fortnight.

Nabma Chief Executive, Graham Wilson said “People have been asking for examples of what other markets are doing” In an effort to keep people informed the nabma will publish a newsletter each month, with the first edition planned for early April.

To see just what is possible, here are a number of offers form markets already backing the campaign. So if your planning to get on board, now is the time to show your support, lets build on this list to showcase, just what this industry is capable of.

Borough market plans to set up an incubator space for prospective new traders, including advice and mentoring from experienced stallholders.
Kensington & Chelsea are developing a varied programme lasting the full 2 weeks, with 200 stalls on offer.
Cambridge market will include a group of stalls run by college students to give them an insight into running a business.
Borough & Spitalfields markets are hoping for celebrity chef cooking demonstrations.
Ludlow are looking to exploit the link with the Olympic torch relay.
Calderdale will be offering half the normal charge (£5) for any trader wishing to establish themselves in new lines not represented on any of their 4 markets.
Sketts markets in Oxfordshire are working with the Oxfordshire Enterprise Agency and the Princes Trust to encourage new entrepreneurs.
Manchester will hold a Real Food Market and a Fairly Traded Market, and will provide extra stalls for new traders in the City Centre Markets
Longsight, Harpurhey and Wythenshawe are planning to provide extra spaces for new traders on a No-Charge first-come-first-serve basis
Bromley Town Centre Market will offer “Stalls for a Tenner” aimed at new start-up businesses, and are planning a Continental Street Market and an avenue of union flags.
Southwark will offer tables for a tenner for new traders, and are planning banners and entertainment for the launch day. They are also considering a local currency voucher than can be exchanged to buy goods on the day.
Stoke-on-Trent Markets are planning a new business start-up clinic, and will run a Dragons Den competition to win a stall for a tenner. They will also offer a stall to local organisations (e.g. Fire, Police, Health, Age Concern, Housing, Education, Business Support) free of charge to promote their cause and to give advice. They are also planning a public awareness campaign including bunting, banners and posters; local charity fundraising activities; giveaways and competitions; and market loyalty cards for entry into a prize draw to win market vouchers.
Shipley & Bingley are planning additional stalls and opportunities to ‘trade for a tenner’, with low cost entertainment, give-ways and cookery demonstrations from their Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food team. Bingley will also include celebration of the 800 year anniversary of their Market Charter.
Bradford Schools Market (around 40/50 stalls) will include cookery demonstrations and tastings of food that can be purchased from the market. Bradford will also launch its new Test Trading initiative giving new entrepreneurs 6 months’ free trading at one of its indoor retail markets and a monthly programme of business support.
