GRIMSBY has one of the highest figures of empty shops and businesses in the country, but is the regeneration of the town making a difference?
Freeman Street was once one of the busiest shopping areas in Grimsby, however since the decline of the fishing industry, as many areas of the town have also experienced, a subsequent decline not helped by the introduction of 24-hour superstores.
The works on the street are still ongoing, but one selection of businesses already seeing the benefits of the regeneration are traders on Freeman Street Market.
The market, which has seen close to £1 million spent on its modernisation and improvement, currently has the highest occupancy it has seen in recent years.
