Market traders and Chesterfield Borough Council have agreed a deal which will see rents on the markets increase by 1.5%, as approved by members of the Borough Council’s cabinet yesterday morning.
The increase will come into effect from 1st April and will affect all stalls on the general market, flea market, farmers’ market and car boot sale.
This increase has been discussed and agreed following consultation with market traders; the council’s original proposal saw an increase rents by 3%. This means market rents have increased by only 1.5% in the last three years.
The shortfall will be met by savings from the markets budget.
