Nov 29, 2013 Peter Rabbit Market News Comments Off on Bracknell Market traders demand to know their future

The 13 businesses which trade below the former 3M building in Market Place were told the council will decide their future next January, after a public consultation.
‘Give us some certainty’ is the plea from Bracknell Market traders who face being evicted from Winchester House next spring.
The 13 businesses which trade below the former 3M building in Market Place were told the council will decide their future next January, after a public consultation.
Greengrocer Andy Dudman says traders want a guarantee the building will be demolished after they leave.
Mr Dudman said: “Like the people, we don’t want this eyesore in Bracknell any more, either.
“What we do want is somewhere to go, but they have left it so late.
“One of our biggest concerns is we don’t want to be forced out and then look at an empty building for several years when we could be trading. Things drag on and it could just be dormant for a couple of years.”
Council regeneration bosses insist once a decision is made on the market, the building would be demolished by November 2014.
The consultation options include keeping the market and Winchester House; moving the market outside and redeveloping the building; or closing the market and redeveloping Winchester House.
Mr Dudman, who moved to the market when he was booted out of the High Street to make way for the demolition of Broadway and Crossway this year, said: “The consultation doesn’t leave us or the general public many options.
“Leaving us where we are, that’s no option, but it is difficult for us to find a building because we don’t know who owns them.
“Moving the market outside is not an option for 90 per cent of the traders.”
The traders last week launched a petition to change the consultation to focus on the market rather than the building.
