TRADERS GET ON BOARD FOR MARKET AT WAVERLEY
The operators of a new weekly market at Edinburgh’s Waverley Station have received an overwhelming response from Scottish traders, with over 100 applications to participate in the ‘Platform 2 Market’ which begins its three month trial on Friday 6th June.
The market, supported by station operators Network Rail, will include around 50 stalls and will run every Friday from 11am to 7pm. The local enterprise, run by LocalMotive Markets, is the first marketplace to operate in the Waverley area for over 40 years.
Edinburgh based directors Tania Pramschufer and Vicky MacDonald have been greatly encouraged by the response.
Tania Pramschufer said:
“The quality of the applications has made our selection process agonising. The widespread interest does, however, mean that we’ve been able to put together a really diverse and interesting line-up of traders, offering something for everyone.
“Although we’ll have a core of regular stalls, we will also be offering a different focus week-to-week. I’m particularly excited that we’ll be hosting The Funk Fair on 6th June, with 20 stalls selling vintage clothing and furniture. It’s a great way to recycle whilst also getting something unique.”
Vicky MacDonald said:
“Personally, I’m excited about Jones & Son Bespoke BBQs, who make delicious pulled pork with homemade chilli jam but customers will be spoilt for choice as there is going to be an impressive range of food and drink stalls.”
Other confirmed food & drink traders include Bakery Andante, Manna House Bakery, Creelers, Indulge Cupcakery, Story Cakes, Earthy Foods & Goods, Considerate Chocolate, Tiphereth Trading, Spencerfield Spirit Company, Eden Brewery, Pieroth, Edin-burgers, Scoff, Seriously Good Venison and Pasta with Love.
Hot food options will include pulled pork rolls, venison pies, homemade soups, fresh oysters, gourmet burgers, fresh pasta and a brand new concept from Scoff: the ‘tattie scone wrap’.
Laura Ferguson started her business, Scoff, six months ago and has been trading at Portobello Market, using local produce to make her new invention.
Laura said:
“This is going to be such an amazing opportunity for me as a new business. When Vicky told me I had a place at the market I was really excited. I’m already thinking of what fillings I am going to make. A ‘stovies’ wrap with beef brisket and onion gravy might work well and I definitely want to offer a vegetarian option so maybe blue cheese, pear and rocket.”
Waverley Station Manager, Juliet Donnachie said:
“This is an exciting new venture for the station and something which I think will be of great interest to Edinburgh locals and visitors alike. We’re pleased to be able to make really productive use of the space which has been created in the station.“
Customers will also be able to buy locally made chocolate, jams, chutneys, charcuterie, bread, cheese, beer, whisky and gin as well as jewellery from local designers, bags, accessories, art, gifts, flowers and pet supplies.
The Platform 2 Market will host up to 50 stalls every Friday from 11am to 7pm starting on 6th June this year. See www.localmotivemarkets.co.uk for more information or follow them on Twitter @LocalMotiveMkts
