A TRADER is quitting Pontypool market because of the council’s tough new licensing agreement – which forces stalls to be open at certain times.
Steve and Gloria Green, who make their own confectionery for their Cacao stall, cited this as a key reason for their departure.
Mr and Mrs Green, retired engineers living in Abersychan, have run the market stall for two years. As their chocolate and sweets are home made, they need Sunday and Monday to replenish their stocks.
But under the contract signed by traders with Torfaen council last month, they had to agree to a set of ‘core hours’ when the stall will be open and staffed.
