THE Frome Country Market’s first ever marmalade competition has been hailed a huge success, with 30 pots of the orange preserve being submitted for judging.
Frome Standard reporter Claire Wilson had been invited to be a guest judge of the competition, along with Sandra Hoskins, of the Beckington, Berkley and Standerwick WI, who was given the grand title of head judge, and the Cheese and Grain’s Karen Harley.
And it was no easy task to choose a winner due to the high quality of the entries for the three categories, which were Seville, dark chunky and marmalade using other fruit.
The most popular category was the Seville with the judges taking more than half an hour to taste and judge each of the 11 jars.
