Oct 31, 2013 Peter Rabbit General News Comments Off on Prospect of Big Macs in historic market town of Monmouth turns traders’ stomachs
Wales Online By Martin Shipton
Fast food chain McDonald’s is looking to bring a franchise to the rural idyll of Monmouth, which has so far resisted the temptations of Big Macs and McFlurrys.
Will the prospect of a McDonald’s burger bar be a step too far for the prosperous market town of Monmouth?
A sizeable proportion of the local community certainly hopes so.
For decades the citizens of a place that rejoices in the victory of Henry V in the Battle of Agincourt has resisted the debatable pleasures of Big Macs and McFlurrys.
Now, however, the American corporation has been in talks with Monmouthshire County Council planning officials about bringing its version of civilisation to Monmouth.
Ed Note:
The fight is also on in Australia, at a town called Tecoma, a village in the Dandenong Ranges, 40 kilometres east of Melbourne, so if you are looking for any support or to find out what they have been through check out their website http://www.burgeroff.org
If we band together, not only can we protect our own towns, but we may be able to help others do the same.
