New stalls to reduce competition on new Greenford market

An Ealing Council spokeswoman said: "The market is still in the early stages and will continue to change over the next few months.

A new range of stalls has been introduced on a fledgling market to appease pedestrians and shopkeepers campaigning against it.

It is hoped the new products will encourage more shoppers to enjoy the new market that runs in Greenford Broadway on Mondays and Thursdays.

Within just a few weeks of its launch in March, angry shopkeepers collected hundreds of signatures to remove it completely.

They argued traders were selling the same items on their doorsteps and the competition would cripple their livelihoods. And some pedestrians said the 26 stalls made it difficult for pushchairs and elderly people to manoeuvre down the busy street.
