Dec 24, 2013 Peter Rabbit Blog, General News Comments Off on Merry Christmas to all our readers
We just wanted to take time out to wish all of our readers a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
From an industry perspective, it has been a varied year we have seen a number of market closures including Cleveleys, North London Artisan and Anglesey markets, but we have also seen a lot of new markets start up and as importantly a great number of revamps and redevelopments announced including Harborough, Newgate, Basildon and Brentwood markets to name but a few.
From new gazebos to entire redevelopments and this demonstrates a level of financial confidence from Local Authorities and government of this country towards our industry.
We have unfortunately throughout the year lost a number of long term iconic traders, people who have helped build the industry, but we have also welcomed many more first time traders and their businesses into our markets, certainly with the assistance of the NMTF “First Pitch campaign” and the nabma “Love your local market campaign” and the proactive approach from many market operators and local authorities.
It really has been a very exciting year and as I said before I don’t think I have ever seen so much support for new traders as I have in this past year.
As so far as Marketmill is concerned, well, we will continue to bring you the best news we can find from around the UK, and of course our sister site does the same in Australia. We have been working hard as always behind the scenes and are looking at a very exciting year to come, not only with the Mills but also Marketstartup.
Please don’t forget to check out our network as we have not only the websites but twitter, Facebook and google + pages available for all of our sites, that’s 11 sites we edit and maintain, full of news and information about the market industry in two continents, no wonder we are looking forward to a Christmas break. So if you find yourself with nothing to do please check them out, and remember to follow us, like us and plus us.
Now just a couple of reminders, If you haven’t already, don’t forget to enter the National Market Traders’ Federation (NMTF) “How green is your market” awards.
There are awards for both markets and individual traders, but you must hurry as the deadline is the 31st of December 2013.

And of course the big one the “Market of the Year” awards being run by the National Association of British Market Authorities (nabma) but again you must be quick as the closing date for entries is the 31st of December 2013.
If you are directly involved in a market, as in, the market manager or local authority you can submit your entries here;

And for the rest of us, if you would like to vote for your favorite market you can do so here;
That’s all from us, just to say thank you for the wonderful support you have show us over the past year, it has certainly helped us continue to do the work we love.
