A market trader who sold fake designer gear claimed he was bringing top brands to people who couldn’t afford the real thing as he pleaded with a judge not to jail him.
Saeed Iqbal ran an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of counterfeit items bearing the trademarks of Jimmy Choo, Barbour, Jack Wills, Paul and Shark and Ugg, on Bury New Road.
At a Manchester Crown Court sentencing hearing the 55-year-old’s lawyer argued there was no loss to customers or the firms whose brands were ripped off, because the Strangeways area of the city was well known for fakes and luxury buyers wouldn’t shop there.
