CITY centre market traders have been ordered to move their stalls away from a famous statue of Sir Stanley Matthews.
A petition was submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council demanding stallholders move at least 10 feet away from the memorial to the footballing great, right.
The document complained that traders were showing disrespect to the monument, and were using it to ‘prop up’ their stalls in Hanley.
Now the council has sent officers to visit traders where the statue is displayed in the city centre, to remind them of their responsibilities.
