THE future of a popular weekly market in Sevenoaks appears to have been secured.
The Saturday market in Blighs Meadow car park had been running for more than a decade until traders were told before Christmas that it was to shut as it was running at a loss.
Sevenoaks Town Council was then spurred into action and contacted site owners Ignis to express an interest at taking control of the 12-stall market.
This week, the two parties agreed in principle that the town council will manage the stalls, subject to legal agreement.
The addition of a farmers’ market, an amenity many residents have sought, is also in the pipeline.
