A MARKET that bounced back from the brink of closure has been named as the best of its type in the country.
Westhoughton Market has been crowned the best small indoor market by the National Association of British Market Authorities.
In April last year only six traders were based at the market, but now all of the 33 stalls are filled and there is a waiting list.
Traders have put their success down to working together and to the support of Jackie Casey, Bolton’s markets manager.
Jean Coban, who runs the Jack the Lad Menswear and Lady’s Lingerie stalls, said: “It is absolutely fantastic news, we are all over the moon. The traders have worked very hard.
“We have had a huge increase in revenue. I think we won because we have a lot community based market events, like a 1940s day, and we are planning something for the Queen’s diamond Jubilee.
