Street food traders object to Market Place move

Signatures are already being collected by the traders on Station Street and petitions will be available to sign in Station Street shops which are supporting the traders.
STREET traders have started a petition against plans to move them from Burton’s Station Street to a ‘food court’ in Market Place.
East Staffordshire Borough Council is consulting with existing traders and other interested parties about moving all street traders from the busy shopping zone.
Following a meeting, owners of the Splash Wagon, baked potato van, hotdog stall and Ashmores ice cream stall agreed to start a petition to be signed by customers who object to the proposed relocation.
The traders are also hoping for a meeting with the council to air their objections face to face. The council claims that the move could make Market Place a ‘stronger destination point’ for food purchases, but the traders disagree.
