Devon and Cornwall Police would like to warn local businesses about a man who is contacting local traders across the peninsular by telephone, saying they are from Devon and Cornwall Police and asking for money to sponsor them.
This has nothing at all to do with Devon and Cornwall Police.
Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “This is a bogus operation and business owners are advised not to enter into any communication with them. It’s nothing to do with us and we just want to make as many businesses and private individuals aware of this scam in case they are approached.”
To date police are aware of small businesses being contacted in Falmouth, Torpoint and Plymouth. It is highly likely businesses in many other areas will have been contacted in a similar way.
