Town centre traders say the cheap food and convenient location of the M store means people are staying away.
Independent retailers say the town centre Morrisons has damaged their trade.
The supermarket giant opened a M local store in Market Place in July, creating 20 jobs and filling the empty unit left by Dorothy Perkins and Burton’s departure.
But some traders claim its cheap produce and convenient location in the heart of the town has seen shoppers move away from independent stores.
Jason Oslar, owner of Oslar Coffee in Denmark Street, said: “Because of the buying power of a supermarket chain I can’t sell sandwiches or cold drinks at the same prices as them so it’s going to have an effect on my business.
