COUNCILLORS have said market stallholders can either like it or lump it as a new code of conduct is brought in to try and prevent ‘unacceptable’ abuse of town hall staff.
Town councillors said they have been forced to step in after numerous incidents of staff being verbally abused and threatened.
Uttoxeter Mayor Martin Blencowe told last week’s full council meeting at the town hall that it was vital it brought in the code of conduct as it has ‘a duty of care to our staff’.
The town council’s market committee met earlier this month to discuss the details of the code of conduct and were in receipt of a draft code of conduct from Stafford Borough Council for its markets.
