THE future of Edenbridge’s town market hangs in the balance after the company running it went bust.
London-based Wendy Fair Markets Ltd has gone into voluntary liquidation less than a year after it took over the running of the event.
The market, held each Thursday morning in the town council-owned car park behind NatWest, had previously been operated for 25 years by Rodney Earl.
As manager of Platt Markets, Mr Earl, 67, ran Edenbridge market until the end of last year.
This week he said: “I ran the market at a loss for two years until I went to the council and asked it to lower the rent to allow me to carry on.
“It decided to put it up for tender instead. If it had helped us by putting down the rent, I would have carried on.”
