SHOPKEEPERS are said to be ‘livid’ over plans to create a food court in Burton’s Market Place — removing street trading from a busy part of the town centre.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has launched a consultation with existing traders and interested parties to explore the possibility of all street trading activities from Station Street moving to the Market Place.
The council claims it could make the area a ‘stronger destination point’ for food purchases.
The street traders — which include the popular ‘splash wagon’, a baked potato van, a hotdog stall and Ashmores ice cream stall — are due to hold a meeting today to discuss their response to the news.
However, nearby shopkeepers said the move could ‘kill off’ Station Street.
