THE FUTURE of South Elmsall market looks to be secured once and for all as proposals to transfer it to a joint partnership will be put to Wakefield Council next week.
Cabinet members will decide on Tuesday whether to agree to hand over the running of the market to the joint group made up of South Elmsall Town Council, South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council, Upton and North Elmsall Parish Council and South Elmsall Town Centre Management Committee.
Coun Laurie Harrison, chairman of the partnership and leader of South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council, said: “It is imperative this market remains open to keep the social fabric of the community together. We want to not only keep it running, but to enhance it and make it even better.
“It’s an integral part of the community and hope cabinet members see this and agree to the proposal.”
