Cornwall councillor Mario Fonk, centre, with local traders, says parking charges must be cut.
PENZANCE will “die on its feet” if Cornwall Council doesn’t slash car parking charges in the town, a councillor has warned.
Mario Fonk said his pleas for reduced charges have so far fallen on deaf ears at county hall but he will continue to fight for the town.

“I have been trying to lobby the council to reduce the charges,” he said. “I have been bringing it up at council meetings and in conversation – at every opportunity I try to talk about it.
“Anything it can do to help local businesses who are paying a lot of business rates should be being done or Penzance is going to die on its feet.”
Suggestions by Mr Fonk include reduced parking after 4pm on weekdays, or one Saturday or Sunday a month free.
