The town has been granted a charter to hold a market since the 16th century, but it hasn’t been a regular Droitwich feature for quite some time.
Councillor Bob Brookes, chairman of the charter market sub-committee said: “Droitwich Spa Town Council have been looking for ways to encourage trade and make the town a more interesting visitor destination by having a regular weekly market. Droitwich Spa was granted a Charter for a Market in 1553 but changes in the law over the last 460 years have meant that it was not a simple matter to arrange, and a great deal of work was needed by councillors and the town clerk to make this possible.
May 20, 2014 0A NEW weekly market is to be opened in the refurbished historic Market Square at Midhurst.
