Boris Johnson is backing a scheme to develop small London food enterprises including a fruit and veg box co-op and a street food market.
The food sector is worth £17 billion a year to the capital’s economy with small and medium-sized businesses providing the majority of the 300,000 jobs. The Mayor is offering four projects grants totalling £80,000, business development advice through the Plunkett Foundation and the option of low-cost finance from a “ green’ bank”.
